Goals:

  • Appeal to NYS Board of Regents to work with SED Commissioner Mills to reduce regulation CR100.10 and eliminate the need for S2060/A4598.
  • Oppose passage of S2060/A4598.
  • Build support for the passage of a bill exempting parent directed education from the NYS compulsory education law, consistent with the original intent of Section I, Article XI of the NYS Constitution.

Action Items:

  • Communicate with and meet with Regents to appeal for reductions in regulation CR100.10.
  • Prepare presentation for an appeal to Assemblymen Weisenberg and Sanders to withdraw support for A4598 and allow the bill to die in committee. Schedule meeting with the assemblymen and/or top aides when presentation is complete.
  • Disseminate via website and email the talking points and arguments opposing passage of A4598/S2060.
  • Gather information on the voting records and stances of key Senate and Assembly members with respect to homeschooling and other issues affecting
    educational freedom.
  • Engage the media through press releases, informational packets, etc.
  • Document the information on states in which homeschoolers have greater freedom than in New York, particularly the states that are said to have little or no oversight.
  • Support and publicize relevant court cases (e.g. the Coon case) documenting the vulnerability of homeschooling families in New York State.
  • Continue to promote the F.R.E.E. in NY Proclamation to build a coalition willing to stand for educational liberty.  Encourage each who sign to recruit ten more signatures.
  • Continue gathering documentation and arguments for compulsory education exemption bill.
  • Continue to research and develop the constitutional foundation for the right of parents to educate their children free from government intrusion.
  • Seek ways to build a unified homeschooling coalition in New York which will approach the legislature with one voice.   To that end, pursue dialog with others including LEAH, HSLDA, NYFPC.

If you would like to assist with any of these activities, or have other ideas or suggestions on how we can work together to reclaim "the inalienable right of parents to educate their children FREE from government control", please tell us.
